All members of the UNICEF Australia Board give their time and expertise voluntarily. Their role is to set policy and help implement strategic plans for the organisation that are developed in partnership with UNICEF in Geneva.

Mr Michael Gill (President), an independent non-executive Director since 30 May 1998. He is currently a counsellor with global business advisory firm Dragoman. Mr Gill was previously Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Review Group. He is also a former Chairman of the National Institute of Economic and Industry Research, AAP Ltd, a former Director of the Sydney Community Foundation and a former Director of the Ian Potter Museum of Art, Victoria Community Foundation, Blue Mountains Festival and Circus Australia Ltd. Mr Gill is Chair of the Board Nomination and Review Committee and an ex-officio member of all Board committees.
Mr John Stewart (Deputy President) B.Bus, FCA. FAICD, an independent non-executive Director since 16 April 2005. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He is presently the Managing Director of an international engineering consultancy. From 1999 until January 2009 he was a Director of MYOB Ltd. Mr Stewart is a member of the Board Nomination and Review Committee.
Ms Fiona Sinclair King B.Ec, LLB, LLM, an independent non-executive Director since 23 November 2002. She is currently a Barrister-at-Law specialising in Commercial Law and Equity. She is a supporter of NAPCAN (the National Association of Child Abuse and Neglect) and Good Beginnings Australia, a foundation member of the Art Gallery of NSW and a patron and collector of Australian indigenous and contemporary art. She served 9 ½ years as a Councillor on the Woollahra Municipal Council and is a volunteer for the UNESCO Wold Heritage Centre, Paris. Previously she was a corporate lawyer and company secretary for an international research and development group of companies; a former International Lawyer for Australian Red Cross (NSW) and a former East Area Director for the Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal.
Mr Michael Batchelor FCA, an independent non-executive Director since 15 October 2005. He is a Chartered Accountant and a consultant to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. For the three years to 2006 he was National Chairman of BDO Chartered Accountants and prior to that he was Managing Partner of the Melbourne office of BDO for five years. That office merged with Deloitte in 2006. He has extensive experience in providing accounting, taxation, audit, corporate finance and strategic advice to a large number of clients across a range of industries. His audit responsibilities include both publicly listed companies and not-for-profit organisations. He is a director of the National Trust of Australia (Victoria. Mr Batchelor is a member of the Audit and Corporate Governance Committee.
Ms Lesley Grant has been with Qantas Airways since May 2002 and holds the position of Group Executive Customer and Marketing at Qantas Airways Ltd and is a member of the Qantas Executive Committee. She has extensive experience in the airline industry in customer, marketing and operations roles and prior to joining Qantas, Lesley held senior airline roles in other international airlines. Lesley has been an independent non-executive Director of UNICEF Australia since May 2006, a Director of the Qantas Foundation since March 2009 and was a Director of the Jetset Travelworld Group.
Mr Greg Ward B.Ec, M.Ec, FCA, F Fin an independent non-executive Director since 27 May 2006. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer and Head of Corporate Affairs at Macquarie Group Ltd. He is also a member of the Group’s Executive Committee. He has 25 years experience in finance and financial services. Prior to joining Macquarie Group in 2006, he held senior roles with Westpac Banking Corporation and PriceWaterhouseCoopers. He served as a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board from 1999 to 2003. He was an inaugural member of the Federal Treasury’s Financial Reporting Panel. He is member of the Macquarie University Council, the governing authority of the university. He is also a Board member of the Macquarie Bank Foundation which facilitated the Bank’s charitable undertakings. Mr Ward is Chair of the Audi and Corporate Governance Committee.
The Honourable Justice Terry Sheahan AO BA LLB rejoined the Board as a non-executive Director in May 2008, having earlier served on the Board 2001-2005. He has been a Judge of the NSW Land and Environment Court since 1997, and was formerly a State MP (1973-88) and Cabinet Minister (1980-88). He was appointed as an Officer in the General Division of the Order of Australia in 2002 for service to the law, to the Parliament, and to the community through organisations concerned with health, care of the aged, human rights and the environment. Mr Sheahan is a member of the Audit and Corporate Governance Committee.
Ms Belinda Rowe BA, MAICD, an independent non-executive Director since 24 November 2008. She is currently Managing Partner of ZenithOptimedia Worldwide and a Director of PublicistMojo Group in Australia. She was in the last two years Chairman of the Advertising Federation of Australia and led the formation of the new advertising industry body, the Communications Council bringing together three industry organisations into one. She was also on the Advisory Board of the Discipline of Marketing, Faculty of Economics and Business at Sydney University for three years specifically to help with the creation of Masters of Marketing. She has extensive experience in marketing, advertising and media communications working across diverse segments such as telecommunications, government, tourism, retail and fast moving consumer goods. She continues to drive growth in new specialised areas such as online, performance marketing and program integration.
Ms Deeta Colvin (McGeogh) BA, an independent non-executive Director since 25 May 2009. Deeta Colvin has had a successful career in media and in marketing. After starting her own marketing and public relations company she sold it 12 years later having reached a very successful niche area in consumer marketing of prestige clients, mostly all international brands. She was then appointed Director of Corporate Relations for PBL Media to set up a below the line division of public relations and events as well as interfacing with major clients of the group in ACP Magazines and Channel 9. After 5 years, Colvin was appointed Head of Marketing for Consolidated Press Holdings to liaise with key clients and set up some of the VIP events and relationship opportunities.
