Children represent some of the most vulnerable people on the planet. Many people often look to sponsor children in developing countries to help ensure that they receive the best start in life.
Our work falls into five priority areas:
- Child survival and development - includes the provision of essential health, nutrition, water and sanitation programmes to ensure children’s basic right to grow up in good health.
- Child education and gender equality - education is critical to the development of individuals and societies, and helps pave the way to a brighter future.
- HIV/AIDS - more than 15 million children have lost one or both parents to AIDS. UNICEF works to help build capacity to look after these vulnerable children and provides medical assistance and education on prevention.
- Child protection - involves the prevention and protection of children from violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect and the effects of conflict including armed conflict.
- Emergencies - children are always especially vulnerable to disease, malnutrition and violence during an emergency.
UNICEF does not offer
individual child sponsorship, our supporters can help children worldwide by becoming a
Global Parent.
