Bread for Good wraps up

Australian restaurants have raised over $80,000 in the Bread for Good campaign for East Africa, with the total expected to keep rising.

The inaugural campaign wrapped up on Monday October 31, after six weeks of fundraising to help children impacted by the East Africa humanitarian crisis.

More than 270 restaurants across NSW and Victoria took part in the effort, which asked diners to donate $2 or more when they ordered bread with their meals.

For restaurants that still have funds to remit, please click ‘Donate Now’ on your individual fundraising page. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at breadforgood@unicef.org.au

The astounding tally is testament to the incredible efforts of all involved, none more so than the top fundraiser Movida Aqui in Melbourne, which raised $4871 (as of Tuesday 8 November, 2011).

Rounding out the top ten were:
  1. Movida Aqui ($4871)
  2. Movida ($4768)
  3. Movida Next Door ($2988)
  4. Almond Bar ($2717)
  5. Quay ($2500)
  6. Boathouse ($2002)
  7. Baker’s Delight Mosman ($1727)
  8. Sepia ($1605)
  9. Tinamba Hotel ($1439)
  10. Cicciolina ($1408)
While UNICEF is making progress in East Africa, there are still 13 million people – half of them children – in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.

The funds raised will make a significant contribution to UNICEF’s work in the region, which includes the provision of therapeutic food, clean water, health services, vaccination campaigns and protection mechanisms for displaced children. There is so much that $80,000 can do, for example:
  • Provide one month's supply of therapeutic food for over 1,770 children;
  • Vaccinate 400,000 children against measles or;
  • Provide 630 family water kits, helping families collect, store and treat the water they need to survive.
Thank you again for your support!
