All children have the right to meet with friends, learn in a safe environment, be treated with respect and be listened to on issues that are important to them as they go back to school. However, with these rights, children also have responsibilities. Use the resources developed by UNICEF Australia below to discuss these rights and responsibilities with your children or students.
For Home
Use this guide to talk with your children about their right to have fun and feel safe as they go back to school, as well as the responsibility they have to respect and realise these rights for others.
For School
Help set expectations for how your class will realise and respect each other’s rights at school this year. The
My Rights and Responsibilities Charter is intended to speak to children about what they can expect from school – to learn, have fun and feel safe – and what their responsibilities are to others – i.e. to work together and ensure everyone feels respected too. By signing this Charter, students can play an informed and active role in your class becoming rights-respecting. Simply download, print and display.
