Education Appeal - A way out of poverty

© UNICEF/NYHQ2011-0798/Dormino

Right now there will be no back to school for 67 million of the world’s children this year. No new pencils or work books. No hands up to answer a question. No lessons from kind teachers.

Many children are missing out on their right to an education. They cannot afford the school fees or the cost of transport to school. They might live too far away from school or face gender or ethnic discrimination. Donate to UNICEF's education appeal and transform children's lives. Or become a Global Parent by making a small monthly contribution.

Education represents opportunity.
  • In Madagascar, only six out of 10 children complete the full five-year cycle of primary education. Sam “Manjo” Manjomasy was one child who faced that very problem. Read Manjo's story.
  • In Laos, ten per cent of children never have the chance to attend primary school. Meet Thao Lee and learn about his story.

At all ages, it empowers people with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to shape a better future for themselves, their families and their communities. Education is the most basic insurance against poverty.

UNICEF is working in the poorest countries to ensure every child can go to school. We’re helping to build schools, train teachers, provide learning materials, advocate for girls' education and reach children engaged in child labour.

Education enhances lives.

You can help uphold every child’s right to an education and help break the cycle of poverty.
