Reunited in Haiti: Sterling finds her father.

Iste Mui cries and kisses his daughter Sterling, reuniting after more than a month of separation. In the mayhem following the Haiti earthquake, the two became separated. When Sterling went out to find some bread she
became lost in the chaos that has engulfed the streets of Port-au-Prince. A young man, Pierre, and his mother, Rose, found Sterling and took her in. UNICEF’s Child Protection Specialist, Marie de la Soudière, learned of her situation through a local child-tracing volunteer.

Marie asked Sterling to draw whatever she remembered of her home neighbourhood to help reveal clues about its location. With this information, they set off in what they believed was the direction of Sterling’s home. The little
girl began to recognise landmarks and soon found her way to her tent. It is one of the good-news cases that illustrates the importance of UNICEF’s work with officials, government and local communities to identify, register and
care for unaccompanied children and to undertake the process of reuniting them with their families.
