UNICEF IN EMERGENCIES
UNICEF RESPONDS TO OVER 270 EMERGENCIES EACH YEAR.
Each year, UNICEF responds to over 270 emergencies around the world, many of which never feature in our news headlines or receive the attention and funding they deserve. UNICEF’s life-saving work in these ‘silent’ emergencies is crucial. In the aftermath of a crisis, children become especially vulnerable to disease, malnutrition, violence and abuse. Urgent action is imperative to save lives.
UNICEF works on the ground in over 150 countries, so we are well-positioned to respond when an emergency strikes. With a presence in Haiti since 1949 and supply hubbs throughout the world, UNICEF provided urgently-needed supplies to children and their families affected by the quake.
Last year UNICEF met the immediate needs of tens of millions of children in the world’s worst humanitarian situations. Thanks to generous donations, UNICEF provided assistance in places like Darfur, Pakistan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, regions ravaged by conflict, displacement and acute humanitarian need.
