Preventing Malaria in Madagascar Appeal
Malaria kills over 17,000 children each year.
In Madagascar, a country that has been affected by numerous natural disasters and is still facing challenges such as widespread malnutrition, 70 per cent of the population lives below the poverty line. Malaria adds to these hardships and is among the leading causes of death among children under five years of age.
A mosquito net can be all it takes to protect a child.
Prevention is the best way to fight malaria and mosquito nets - particularly Long Lasting Insecticide-treated Nets (LLINs) have proved to be the most effective way to reduce transmission.
UNICEF's Preventing Malaria in Madagascar program is working to ensure that 100 per cent of households have at least two LLINs and that 95 per cent of children and pregnant women sleep under an LLIN, in the target district of Alaotra Mangoro. By supporting this appeal you are helping UNICEF combat malaria in Madagascar.
