UNICEF Australia's Pledge for Children
Ask your Local Candidates to Support Child Rights
For the 2010 Federal Election, UNICEF Australia is asking all political parties and candidates to pledge to support children if they are elected.
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child sets out and protects the fundamental rights which every child deserves. The Convention has been signed by almost every country in the world. Australia signed this Convention in 1990 and, in doing so, committed to ensure that the Government upheld the rights of all Australian children.
While progress has been made in the 20 years since Australia ratified the Convention, many children in Australia and overseas still don't enjoy the full rights they deserve. There is still much work to do and progress relies on the support of all elected members of the Australian Government.
UNICEF Australia urges you to write to the candidates in your Federal Electorate to ask them to make this pledge to children by signing the Take Action for Children Pledge, and returning it to UNICEF Australia by mail or fax.
Download a sample letter to send to your local candidates here. Don't forget to send them a copy of the pledge form.
We have also put together some helpful tips to guide you as you write to, or meet with the candidates running for election in your electorate.

We want to hear about it
Please email us at advocacy@unicef.org.au and tell us about who you wrote to or who you met with, and whether or not they signed the Take Action for Children Pledge.
