UNICEF University Liaison Officer (ULO) Program

BE PART OF A NATIONAL NETWORK OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS RAISING AWARENESS ACROSS AUSTRALIA

The UNICEF University Liaison Officer (ULO) program aims to raise awareness of, and support for, UNICEF’s work on behalf of children around the world. ULOs are selectively appointed students who act as key advocates for UNICEF Australia at universities. They hold events on campus to inform and educate the student community about children’s rights, development issues and UNICEF’s work for children worldwide. The initiative provides tertiary students with invaluable exposure to the work of an international aid organisation and offers important learning opportunities for students interested in human rights and development issues in general.

The ULO program is designed to be flexible and caters to individual skills, abilities and interests. It provides an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience in volunteering for a non-profit organisation whilst undertaking their studies. “I like that the program allows me the freedom to organise events to fit in with my social, work and study commitments,” says Lauren, ULO at University of Adelaide in 2008-09.

Previous ULOs have organised a wide variety of events over the years to raise awareness on their campus. From trivia nights to film screenings, from art exhibitions to guest speaker opportunities, these events have proven to be highly successful in engaging students and helping spread the word about UNICEF’s work. “The best part about being a ULO is working with the other ULOs to run fun and educational events” says Ashleigh, ULO at University of Western Australia from 2007-09.

Read through the ULO position description and if you would like to become a ULO for UNICEF Australia, please email your resume and cover letter to education@unicef.org.au. In your cover letter, please state why you would like to participate in the ULO program, what skills you can bring to the role, and what type of events or initiatives you would implement if you were appointed.
