Communities across Fiji have been devastated by the strongest storm ever recorded to hit land in the Southern Hemisphere. Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Winston has flattened entire villages with torrential rain, storm surges and wind gusts of up to 325 km/h.
347,000 have been impacted and in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 120,000 children. Thousands of homes have been damaged. Hospitals, schools and water supplies have been hit hard, while damage to crops and livestock has cut off families' food and livelihoods.
Children's lives have been thrown into utter chaos and every hour counts.
UNICEF needs your help to:
- Deliver emergency water, health and nutritional supplies to families who have lost everything.
- Set up child-friendly spaces to keep kids off the streets and away from danger.
- Provide counselling and pyschosocial support for children suffering profound stress.
- Help kids get back to school and through every step of the long-term recovery.
UNICEF is distributing its pre-positioned supplies from Suva and Nadi but the scale of this crisis is stretching our teams to the limit. We urgently need your help to reach more children and families with lifesaving aid.
