The NRL, in partnership with UNICEF Australia, has called on the Rugby League community to unite in support of the people affected by the devastating aftermath of Cyclone Winston in Fiji.
Communities across Fiji have been devastated by the strongest storm ever recorded in the Southern Hemisphere. Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Winston has flattened entire villages with torrential rain, storm surges and wind gusts of up to 320 km/h.
347,000 have been impacted and in dire need of humanitarian aid, including 120,000 children. Thousands of homes have been damaged. Hospitals, schools and water supplies have been hit hard, while damage to crops and livestock has cut off families' food and livelihoods.
Children's lives have been thrown into utter chaos and every hour counts.
UNICEF needs your help to:
- Deliver emergency water, health kits and nutritional supplies to families who have lost everything.
- Set up child-friendly spaces to keep kids off the streets and away from danger.
- Provide counselling and pyschosocial support for children suffering profound stress.
- Help kids get back to school and through every step of the long-term recovery.
UNICEF is distributing its pre-positioned supplies from Suva and Nadi but the scale of this crisis is stretching our teams to the limit. We urgently need your help to reach more children and families with lifesaving aid.
“Entire lives have been turned upside down.”
UNICEF teams are tirelessly working to help families back to their feet and to get students back in school where they can look to the future with their friends. But thousands of children are still in need across a sprawling stretch of islands and we need your help to reach more families.
UNICEF is committed to reaching each and every child in need in Fiji but we cannot continue to provide life-saving care without your support.
Help provide the children of Fiji with the essentials they need to rebuild their lives and be happy, healthy and safe.
In the unlikely event that funds raised for Cyclone Winston relief exceed the need, UNICEF will use your donation where it is needed most.
