UNICEF Australia respects the privacy of its donors and others with whom we deal. UNICEF Australia complies with the National Privacy Principles. We are a member of the Australian Council for International Development and we comply with its Code of Conduct.

We are also a member of the Australian Direct Marketing Association and we comply with its Code of Practice.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We only collect information about our donors and members necessary to enable us to maintain accurate records about who donates to us; the purpose, if specified, for which donations are made; and so that we may meet our legal obligations, such as providing donors with official receipts for their donations.

We may ask for other information to enable us to better understand who our donors and others who deal with us are, but the provision of that information is purely voluntary.

INFORMATION STORAGE & USE

We have taken all reasonable steps to protect the security of the information we keep about our members, donors and others with whom we deal.

Our electronic database is secured by a firewall and anti-virus software to ensure, so far as is practicable, that it is not accessed by unauthorised parties.  Our internal procedures ensure that proper audit trails are maintained of all entries and changes to our database without consent.

With the exceptions indicated below, we do not sell or otherwise make available to any third party information contained in our database.

We do provide mailing details from our database to secure mailing houses to enable us to send out appeals and other donation requests.  However, we require a written agreement to be entered into which restricts the use of that information to the purpose for which it is provided; prohibits the copying or use of that information for any other purpose; and requires the destruction or return to us of that information once the purpose for which it has been provided has been served.

We may from time to time provide information from our database to market research companies or other contractors for the purpose of market research.  We require a written agreement to be signed which protects the information we provide; prohibits the copying or use of that information for any other purpose and the passing on of that information to any other party; and requires the destruction or return to us of that information once the purpose for which it has been provided has been served.

ACCESS TO INFORMATION WE MAINTAIN

Subject to their proper identification, any person about whom we maintain information may have complete access to the information we have about them.

OUR CONTACT WITH PEOPLE ON OUR DATABASE

From time to time we contact people on our database to seek donations from them or for other purposes connected with our operations.

Any person who does not want us to do so may simply tell us that and we will not contact them or give their details to any third party for market research or similar purposes.

PRIVACY OFFICER

We have appointed a designated Privacy Officer who is responsible for investigating any complaints or concerns any person may have about our protection of their privacy.
