Children have endured three years of horrors under the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) and ten months of intense violence during the battle for control of the city.
They need our help and they need it now.
UNICEF is already on the ground delivering emergency supplies but this extraordinary humanitarian challenge is stretching our resources to the limit and we simply can’t do it without your help.
Your emergency donation will help UNICEF deliver:
- Safe spaces for children with nowhere else to go
- Clean water, toilets and hygiene kits for families on the move
- Care for children with mental and physical trauma
- Vaccinations against polio and measles to prevent the deadly outbreaks that thrive in these crisis conditions.
Violence forced Noor and her family to flee their home near Mosul. Today, they're taking shelter in Debaga Camp and longing for the life they left behind. "I don't want to go back to a different school," says Noor. "I miss my school." © UNICEF/UN035107/Anmar
Mosul’s children have already endured two years of terror. Now they need help more urgently than ever.
Across Iraq, conflict has already driven more than 3 million people from their homes and thrown children's lives into chaos.
UNICEF estimates that one in every five schools is destroyed or closed. More than 600,000 displaced children have missed an entire school year, placing girls at increased risk of early marriage and other forms of gender-based violence.
Boys are vulnerable to becoming child labourers and remain at risk of recruitment into armed groups. And since the start of 2014, more than 2,600 children have suffered grave violations of their rights, including killing, maiming and abduction.
Public health services are overwhelmed, leaving pregnant women, new mothers, infants and young children at serious risk.
UNICEF is delivering aid to save lives in Iraq but we just don't have the funds to reach every child.
The need is immense. Our teams are working around the clock to reach 1 million people affected by the emergency with safe drinking water, deliver winter clothing kits for 1.3 million displaced people and immunise 5.7 million children against the polio virus that could spread in these crisis conditions.
This is just one of many intense and unrelenting conflicts that demand our response across the region. Your gift will support children in Iraq and wherever they most need our help in this regional crisis. In the unlikely event that funds raised exceed children's needs in this region, UNICEF will direct your donation to where it's needed most.
Together we can give these children the protection and support they deserve. Children trapped in war and crisis simply cannot wait: please give generously now.
