Purifying water for children after a cyclone
Verenaisi Lakosi is showing the children in her village how she makes the water from the tap safe to drink by using a water purification tablet. After a cyclone destroyed much of their village, the community were left with severly limited access to safe drinking water. The cyclone destroyed 30 out of 46 homes in the village of Lawaki, Fiji.
UNICEF prioritises the provision of safe drinking water
“For two days we didn’t have water to drink so we
were drinking rain water from the pieces of tin roof. ”
and sanitation supplies to prevent the spread of disease. In the first week of the emergency response to Cyclone Winston, UNICEF supplied clean drinking water to 20,000 people.
