Seven month-old Kato, his three year-old sister, Anika, and mother, Jamila, were forced to flee conflict in Tigray in Ethiopia and seek shelter in the region's capital. UNICEF provided children impacted by the crisis, like Kato, as well as pregnant and lactating women, with access to food with high nutritional value. These high energy biscuits help to give children the vitamins and minerals their body needs to thrive.
It is estimated that more than 100,000 children in Tigray could suffer from life-threatening severe acute malnutrition due to the conflict.
UNICEF works to ensure that food instability in emergencies is managed, not just in the short term, but also in the future, to allow children to live up to their full potential.
