UNICEF Australia welcomes today’s announcement in the run up to next week's budget by the Federal Government of $900 million in official development assistance (ODA) to Pacific nations.

Tony Stuart, the chief executive of UNICEF Australia, said the “significant increase” of $375 million over four years - with details to be announced Tuesday - represents a good outcome for children.

“More aid means more children can grow up in a world that is safe, secure and prosperous,” Mr Stuart said.

“We know the Pacific has suffered the impacts of COVID deeply and with decades of working in the region, UNICEF knows the needs of children, young people and families are great.”

Mr Stuart said UNICEF looks forward to working further with the Government for greater outcomes for children.
