UNICEF Australia is extremely saddened by the news that seven aid workers have been killed while delivering life-saving supplies in Gaza yesterday.

“Our hearts are broken for the loss of these brave aid workers, including one Australian, who lost their lives in Gaza and our thoughts are with their families and loved ones,” UNICEF Australia Chief Executive Tony Stuart said.

“Sadly, in Gaza, no one is safe. More than 170 humanitarian workers have already been killed in this war since October, while trying to help others survive and more than 30,000 have lost their lives since violence escalated on October 7.

“Our colleagues on the frontline have described the dire conditions that Palestinian people are facing day in, day out. Famine is imminent, many children are acutely malnourished and massive amounts of food and nutrition treatments are needed urgently.

“Efforts to provide life-saving assistance cannot be hindered. Humanitarian aid workers must be able to do their work in a safe environment.

“Again, we call for an immediate ceasefire and for all hostages to be released.”
