Ongoing conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Afghanistan have endangered children’s lives. And with a harsh winter approaching, they need help now more than ever.

Help reach children in conflict with
life-saving theraputic food

In Afghanistan, the dire economic situation and food insecurity is pushing families further into poverty. Half of the country's children under five are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition, and 1 million are at risk of dying without immediate treatment.

Although millions of children have been reached by UNICEF’s fearless delivery service, many more are still waiting. UNICEF has 75 years of experience delivering life-saving supplies in more than 190 countries. In Afghanistan, our teams have a presence in every region and we will stay and deliver for children, no matter what.

But we can't do it alone. By becoming a Global Parent, and starting to donate every month, you can help shape a better future for a child.

For just $30 a month, you could help to send life-saving therapeutic food to
children in need.

Malika is one of 14 million people now facing acute food insecurity in Afghanistan. Her family fled their home due to the recent conflict and found safety in the west of Afghanistan.

As the only breadwinner of her family, Malika earns just $0.5 per kilogram by weaving yarn from fleece. Her daughter Parwana is suffering from severe acute malnutrition because they cannot afford enough food.

By become a monthly donor today, you could help to deliver life-saving therapeutic food, and protect the futures of children, no matter where they live.

Now, with the country’s bitter winter months ahead, children face yet another risk to their wellbeing.

Temperatures can fall as low as -12.1°C, but too many children lack adequate clothing to keep them warm and dry, and live in shelters that do not protect against the cold, wind and rain.

a passionate community of Global Parents
22.4 million children and women received essential health care services.
Tickets to exclusive events and webinars
34 million more people accessed safe water.
More than 110 million children accessed education, including early learning.

82 cents was a contribution to children, either supporting our international and domestic programs or community education on children's issues within Australia.

6 cents were spent on UNICEF Australia’s accountability, administration and reserves.

12 cents per dollar from funds raised by the public went to investing in further growing fundraising in Australia, to increase our impact for children.

Percentages shown as a proportion of operating expenditure which excludes non-monetary expenditure and fundraising costs funded through UNICEF grants. UNICEF Australia’s contribution to children includes funds to international and domestic programs, together with local program support costs and community education expenditure which informs and educates Australians on child rights.

We count on your monthly donation to be able to plan ahead and continue to provide support to children in need all around the world. When you pledge to donate monthly, you enable us to:
  • More effectively plan our upcoming work, knowing that we have the funds ready to invest in long-term solutions and make a lasting impact for children
  • Have extra supplies ready in areas where emergencies are likely to occur because of climate conditions or political instability
  • Respond to children’s needs wherever it is most urgently required at the time
How much of my donation is spent on UNICEF’s program work for children?

UNICEF’s approach is to use low-cost, highly effective solutions that work dramatically to improve children’s lives. For every dollar donated by the Australian public in 2018:
  • 63 cents went directly to program expenditure, including long-term development and emergency response work across both domestic and international programs and community education.
  • 29 cents per dollar from funds raised by the public went to investing in further growing fundraising in Australia to benefit more children across the world. UNICEF Australia reinvests our supporters' generous donations to grow more funds, meaning that more funds are able to be remitted to the field to support our work with children.
  • 8 cents was spent on UNICEF Australia's accountability, administration and reserves. UNICEF Australia is in the lowest percentile of our peer organisations in terms of money spent on administrative costs.
